Unleashing Power On-the-Go: A Comprehensive Review of the iTechworld 120X PRO Lithium Battery

Updated: Oct 16, 2023

In the realm of portable power solutions, the iTechworld 120X PRO Lithium Battery has emerged as a solid option for 4WDers, campers, and anyone seeking reliable off-grid power. In this review we'll explore its design, performance, features, and overall usability to help you make an informed decision about if it will suit your needs.

Design and Build Quality: The iTechWorld 120X PRO Lithium Battery is an impressive powerhouse encased in a sturdy, ABS plastic housing. The sleek N70 sized shell not only protects the battery but also makes it easy to carry with the removable carrying strap. Weighing in at just over 11 kilograms, it's a portable, easy to move design that won't burden your outdoor excursions.

Performance: With a full 120 amp-hour (Ah) capacity, the iTechWorld 120X PRO is built to throw out power for extended periods. Whether you're camping in the bush, on a road trip, or facing a extended periods without charge, this battery provides a dependable source of energy for your essential devices. The lithium arrangement is a lithium-iron phosphate (LifePO4) chemistry, which means a highly efficient charging, discharging and a longer lifespan compared to traditional lead-acid batteries. This means more power in a smaller and lighter package, making it an excellent choice if you're looking to maximize power storage without compromising for weight.

Charging and Discharging: One of the standout features of the iTechWorld 120X PRO is its charging versatility. It's advertised as a true "Drop In" replacement for a Lead Acid battery, claiming its charge profile matches an AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat), FLA (Flooded Lead Acid) or SLA (Sealed Lead Acid) chemistry.

In our tests, this is true to a point.

Direct Alternator Charging is an option providing you have a alternator capable of supplying 100A at 14.4V, you can connect straight from your crank battery through a fuse and VSR to the 120X PRO.

The Redback BMS used in the 120X PRO regulates the required voltage, however it will draw a maximum of 100A which can present a problem for smaller alternators.

If your alternator can't supply 100A then DC-DC charging will be you're best option.

The DC-DC Charging option will work a little in the reverse of a traditional setup.

With most Lithium batteries the DC-DC Charger will regulate current DOWN to protect the charging system of your vehicle (the alternator) from burning out due to the massive current draw of the lithium battery.

We've been using this option since our first dual battery system as it's a great all round option that suits 99% of systems.

Our DCDC charger at the time of writing is the Victron Orion 12 / 12 | 30

Solar Input, like all 12V setups will require a solar charge controller to regulate the PV voltage down to a level that won't damage the battery. A good quality MPPT regulator will see your off grid capacity soar and keep you out camping for longer periods without having to start your engine or rely on 240V charging options.

For our setup, we use the Victron MPPT SmartSolar 100 | 20.

This flexibility ensures that you can recharge the battery using various sources, making it an ideal companion for off-grid adventures where traditional power sources may be scarce. The battery also supports multiple output options, including USB ports, DC outlets, and an inverter for AC power. This makes it compatible with a wide range of devices, from smartphones and laptops to camping appliances and power tools.

Safety Features: The iTechworld 120X PRO Lithium Battery incorporates several safety features to protect itself and your 12V system. These include overcharge and discharge protection, short circuit protection, and high & low temperature cutout.

These not only keep the battery as efficiently as possible but also ensures the life of the battery stays as high as possible and provides peace of mind when relying on it in different environments.

Conclusion: To sum up, the iTechworld 120X PRO Lithium Battery has been a reliable and versatile power source for us. Its solid design, impressive performance, and array of features make it a great option in the LifePO4 battery market. Whether for camping, an off-grid holiday, or simply for having a reliable power source in your vehicle, the 120X PRO is a dependable option that brings power to your fingertips wherever you go.
